Finish the Google Doodle that was assigned to you last week. The Googe Doodle is about YOU. Use your Photoshop editing skills. It must include your birth date (month and day at least) and other things (total of 5 to 6) that have to do with you. When you visit THIS SITE, notice that “Google” is still visible… either by using the actual “Google” text/font OR by making “Google” with shapes/images/graphics. Be creative!

Who’s Who in Graphic Design
Monday, April 09th, 2012 | Author:

You are going to begin a mini-research project (don’t panic) which we will work on bit by bit in class. Your project is about a specific graphic designer. Each of you will select one designer who has contributed something famous and recognizable to the world of graphic design.

First step for today: Get on the internet and go through the list finding a little about the designers listed to see which you might be interested in. Check out the person’s work. Have a few in mind for tomorrow, because I will call your name at random and you will tell me the designer/company you wish to use for your project… No one may select the same designer as anyone else.

Designers to consider for your project (you are not limited to these):

  1. Saul Bass
  2. Alexey Brodovitch
  3. Neville Brody
  4. David Carson
  5. Adolphe Mouron Cassandre
  6. Robinsson Cravents
  7. Shepard Fairey
  8. James Montgomery Flagg
  9. Alan Gerard Fletcher
  10. Milton Glaser
  11. Rob Janoff
  12. Áron Jancsó
  13. Aaron Koblin
  14. Walter Landor
  15. Herb Lubelin
  16. Aleksandar Maćašev
  17. William Morris
  18. Paul Rand
  19. Frank Mason Robinson
  20. Alex Rutterford
  21. David Sossella
  22. List of graphic designers

NOTE: For this project, you will be sharing a little information about the designer, sharing what they are famous for in the design community, and produce your own work in the style of that designer.

Start a new online portfolio system account
Wednesday, March 07th, 2012 | Author:

Hello Students! You are going to start an online account with Portfoliopen.com for showcasing your work. Follow these steps please:

  1. Go to http://www.portfoliopen.com/Account/Register
  2. Type your first name and last initial in the first window. If it is red, that name is already taken, and you have to try something else. Try your first name and last name. Try something until it turns black. Remember what you’ve entered!
  3. Complete the rest of the form. Use an email address you can access. If you do not have an email address, YOU DO have a school email address! It is YourUsername@ms.nwr7.org. You can access it through https://www.google.com/a/ms.nwr7.org and simply use your school username and password to access the account.
  4. Check in your email for a message from Portfoliopen and click the link in it to activate your account.
  5. Send Mr. Vincent an email message with your class period in the subject and your account name or URL in the message (rvincent@nwr7.org).

Lessons on how to set your portfolio up for your class work will be given in class. If you would like to explore and set it up on your own, please make just one section named Intro To Graphics (type= Print Design).

Superpower Poster
Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012 | Author:

Using the link. http://www.superpowerlist.com, find a superpower to make a poster for. Your poster must:

  • be 8.5″ x 11″ (US Paper)
  • include the title of the power in a font and look that goes with the superpower
  • include the description, pros, and cons
  • have imagery that goes along with and/or helps illustrate that superpower

This poster is to let the public know it exists and why it is good (pros) and what to warned about (cons). The power can be a big, eye-catching title. The negative/cons are “warnings”. You have to come up with the visuals to help explain the superpower visually.

REMINDER: you have lots of resource links under blogroll!
